Three Texas A&M AgriLife industrial hemp field days set

Three industrial hemp field programs will be held for producers on Sept. 27, Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 near Lubbock, Chillicothe and Muleshoe, respectively, by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. There is no cost to attend nor is preregistration required.

The first of the three field days takes place from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center, Lubbock, at 1102 East Drew St./Farm-to-Market Road 1294.

The second field hemp program will be Oct. 7 from 9-11 a.m. at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Station, 1340 Farm-to Market Road 392, Chillicothe.

Gatlin Brothers returning to Dalhart

Larry, Steve and Rudy Gatlin, aka The Gatlin Brothers, will be returning to perform at the La Rita Theatre in Dalhart on Saturday November 6. Tickets for the concert will be $45 each, and will go on sale on Thursday October 6.

Dalhart Chamber of Commerce hosts ribbon cuttings

Bezner announced as 2021 Western Heritage honoree

Jody Bezner of Texline, shown here with his wife Kay Bezner, has been named the 2021 Western Heritage honoree by the Amarillo Tri-State Exposition. The award, which began in 1996, honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the agricultural industry and surrounding communities in the Golden Spread area. The Bezner family rep- resents that “pioneering spirit” the Western Heritage Award was set out to honor. From Jody’s parents Doc and boots who were an early part of the fed cattle industry, to Jody and Kay and their three sons, Michael, Mitchel, and Stephen, and now their children. The West- ern way of life and the values that have made us strong have remained intact and passed down from generation to generation.

Landree Heidenreich receives Tri-State Fair & Rodeo scholarship

Landree Heidenreich from Hartley was one of three Panhandle students who were recognized as a scholarship recipient at the Tri-State Fair & Rodeo Boots & Business event on September 11, in the Commercial Exhibits Hall. The Amarillo Tri-State Fair & Rodeo awarded its first scholarship of $500 in 2004. Since that singe-student award, the program has expanded to offer three local students $8,000 each. To date, the Fair has awarded over $236,000 in scholarships to area students.

Governor Abbott, TDEM establish COVID-19 antibody infusion center in Amarillo

AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott announced on Wednesday September 22 that the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), in partnership with the City of Amarillo, will launch a new COVID-19 therapeutic infusion center in Amarillo. The infusion center will begin accepting patients tomorrow and has been provided with monoclonal antibodies to treat outpatient cases of COVID-19 who have a referral from a doctor. This treatment is available at no cost to the patient.

Dalhart’s Erika Maness wins rodeo queen title in Dumas

Erika Maness of Dalhart, who is a sophomore at Hartley High School, was crowned Cowboy Classic. Rodeo Association (CCRA) Queen on Saturday, August 21 in Dumas. She is the daughter of Seth and Shadlynn Maness of Dalhart.

Texas Nursing Home Associations ask the legislature to address critical workforce shortage

Local nursing homes among those affected by shortage Austin, Texas – Texas Health Care Association (THCA) and LeadingAge Texas are urging the Texas Legislature to address the staffing crisis in nursing homes during the third special session. The direct care workforce has been at critical shortage levels made worse by the pandemic. In a recent member survey, 70% of long-term care facilities cited that they are unable to hire enough nurses and over 30% have restricted new admissions due to staffing shortages.

Local 4-H students compete at state in shooting sports

Dallam and Hartley County 4-H members recently competed in the Texas 4-H Shooting Sports State Games. The Texas 4-H Shooting Sports Program offers a wide range of competitions in many disciplines over two weeks each July in Manor and San Antonio.

Hartley FFA receives “Grants for Growing” funding from National FFA Organization 

INDIANAPOLIS - The Hartley FFA chapter in Hartley has been awarded $3,900 as part of the Grants for Growing program. The nationwide program, sponsored by Tractor Supply Company, provides grant funds to local FFA chapters to support the development or improvement of agricultural education projects that enhance the classroom experiences for students through chapter engagement activities.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar distributes $925 Million in monthly sales tax revenue to local governments

(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $925.1 million in local sales tax allocations for September, 20.9 percent more than in September 2020.

AmeriCorps works on elementary habitat
