Interact Club donates food, money to Good Samaritan

The Dalhart Interact Club held a Halloween Carnival at the Rita Blanca Coliseum on Saturday October 30 to raise money for community service projects. Those attending the carnival could pay admission by bringing cans of food or paying an admission fee, and the club was able to donate 619.2 pounds of food to Good Samaritan, and also donated a check for $331 that will be used by Good Samaritan to buy more food. The members of the club were very grateful to the community for turning out in such large numbers to support them and are thankful to have funds for their community service projects.

Wellington State Bank contest winners

Wellington State Bank held a Halloween coloring contest with winners picked in each of three divisions. From l-r: In the 4-year old and under division, Greta Watson was the winner; in the ages 5-8 division, Annabel Admire was the winner; and in the ages 9-12 division, Nia Long was the winner.

“A Rockin’ Elvis Christmas” coming to La Rita Theatre

Dalhart’s La Rita Performing Arts Theatre, along with Stardom Entertainment, will present “A Rockin’ Elvis Christmas” next month. The production features Vince King from Houston, Cliff Wright from Branson, Missouri, and Shake Rattle & Roll from East Texas backed by the Edge of Reality Band from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

WT president speaks to students in Dalhart, Hartley, Texline

West Texas A&M University President Walter V. Wendler started his second tour of high schools in the Texas Panhandle on September 14 with stops at Randall High, Amarillo High and Tascosa High. That tour came to Hartley and Dallam Counties on Friday October 29 as Wendler visited Texline, Dalhart and Hartley.

Local students do well at State Fair of Texas

Several Dallam County 4-H students exhibited animals at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas during October. Seven students had animals that placed tenth or higher in their respective classes.

DHCHD names Ashlee Garcia new Legacy Assisted Living Director

Dalhart, Texas – On Monday October 11, Ashlee Garcia stepped into the position as Director at Legacy Assisted Living, a 26- bed facility. Garcia has 13 years of experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) and has worked for Dallam Hartley Counties Hospital District (DHCHD) for her entire career. She is a well-rounded LVN with eight years of experience working on the floor at Coon Memorial Hospital in the ER and obstetrics.

DHCHD announces new Outpatient Clinic Director

Dalhart, Texas – On Wednesday October 20 Dallam Hartley Counties Hospital District (DHCHD) announced Priscilla Barron as the new Outpatient Clinic Director. Barron will be overseeing the day-to-day operations at Dalhart Family Medicine Clinic and High Country Community Rural Health Clinic. Barron has been with DHCHD for nearly seven years now and has become well-versed with the clinics. Since she started working for the district, she has held several positions: receptionist, office

Texline boys win cross country regional title

Texline High School has become known around the state for its boys’ basketball program, having won the Class 1A state championship twice in the past six years, including back in March. Their boys’ cross country program hasn’t been as well known, but that may change after the Tornadoes won the Region I, Class 1A team championship on Monday October 25.

Interact Club to host Halloween carnival Saturday

One thing that Dalhart has not had for Halloween that many other towns do have, at least recently, is a Halloween Carnival. The Dalhart Interact Club will change that this year as they host the Spooktacular Halloween Carnival at the Rita Blanca Coliseum this Saturday, October 30.

4-H Gold Star awards presented to Dalhart, Channing students

The 4-H Gold Star Banquet for the Texas Panhandle was held on Monday October 18 on the campus of West Texas A&M University. 4-Hers and their families from the 22 counties in the Panhandle gathered at the banquet to honor the Gold Star award recipients. Three 4-Hers from Dallam and Hartley Counties were honored. They were Blair Dahl of Hartley County and Georgia Bezner and Zoe Meeks of Dallam County.

Volunteer Fire Department Reports to Fire

The Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at 201 Maple in Dalhart in the morning on Monday October 18. The fire was quickly knocked down by the Dalhart and Hartley Fire Departments.

Dallam County’s Taylor Martin exhibits two winners at Tri-State Fair

Taylor Martin, Dallam County 4-H member, exhibited both the Grand Champion Angus Bull and the Reserve Grand Champion Angus Heifer during the Open Angus Show on September 21 at the Tri-State Fair in Amarillo. She is the 17- year old daughter of Todd and Carol Martin. The cattle were evaluated by Judge Josh Perkins of Perkins, Oklahoma.

Texas State Senator Kel Seliger to not seek re-election

AUSTIN — State Senator Kel Seliger announced he will not seek re-election on Wednesday October 20. 

“After thoughtful consideration and with the reassurance of my family, including my new very vocal granddaughter, I have decided not to be a candidate for re-election to the Texas Senate. From my first campaign in 1989 to today, I have felt overwhelmingly proud to serve the Panhandle, South Plains, and the Permian Basin.”

Dalhart Intermediate’s 1st Six Weeks Honor Roll

Dalhart Intermediate School recently released the names of the students on its honor rolls for the first six weeks. Wolves’ comeback shocks Littlefield

The Dalhart Golden Wolves traveled to Littlefield to play the Wildcats on Friday October 15. Littlefield took a 32-7 lead into halftime, but the Wolves staged a huge comeback in the second half, scoring 34 points while keeping the Wildcats in check to win the game by a final score of 41-32.

Early voting starts October 18 for Constitutional Amendment election

Early voting for the November 2, 2021 Constitutional Amendment election will begin this coming Monday, October 18 and will end on Friday October 29, 2021. In Dallam County, it will be conducted at the office of the Dallam County Clerk in the Dallam County Courthouse from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

7th Annual Rise & Shine food drive starts today

XIT Communications will conduct its 7th Annual Rise & Shine Food Drive beginning today, Friday October 15, but things will be a little different this year due to COVID-19. Instead of delivering the food to one of the XIT office locations, this year, the food will be delivered directly to the food pantry drop off locations at Lincoln Street Baptist Church at 1019 Lincoln Street in Dalhart, the Texline Food Pantry location at the Texline C o m m u n i t y Center at 300 S. 3rd Street in Texline, or Southside at 217 E. Texas Avenue in Stratford. The drop-off times for each pantry are listed below.
