Homecoming week in Dalhart

By Bill Kelly
The Dalhart Texan

Dalhart High School will celebrate homecoming this Friday, September 30 as they play the Levelland Lobos in the “Battle of the Packs.” The high school and other Dalhart ISD campuses started homecoming activities today and will continue them all week as they build up to the game.

All four of the campuses are holding dress-up days this week in honor of homecoming. School was out yesterday for staff development, so homecoming week actually started today, Tuesday September 27. Dalhart Elementary and Dalhart Intermediate are doing the same dress-up days. Today is Superhero Day, Wednesday is Pajama and Favorite Book Day, Thursday is Parent Day (kids should dress like mom or dad), and Friday is Spirit Day to wear purple and gold.

At Dalhart Junior High, today is White Lie T-Shirt and Hat Day, and Wednesday is Grill Dad vs. Soccer Mom Day. Thursday is Anything but a Backpack Day, so kids should bring their books and supplies in anything except an actual backpack. Friday is Spirit Day for wearing purple and gold.

In keeping with the “Battle of the Packs” theme, Dalhart High’s dress-up days feature battles. Today is Heroes vs. Villains Day, so students and staff can dress as either a hero or a villain. Wednesday is Past vs. Future Day, which means dressing up in clothes from a previous decade or dressing up based on a future career or college. Thursday is Grill Dad vs. Soccer Mom Day, and Friday is also Spirit Day at the high school as it is on the other campuses.

The homecoming parade and pep rally will be held tomorrow, Wednesday September 28. The parade will run from Dalhart Elementary down 16th Street to Memorial Stadium, and then the pep rally will be held at the stadium right after the parade. There hasn’t been a bonfire the past few years, but there will be a bonfire this year following the pep rally.

The final event of homecoming week is the coronation of the king and queen and then the game itself. The homecoming court consists of seniors, with each class voting on a senior football player and a senior girl to represent that class in the court. The freshmen class selected Zeek Van Beek and Jadyn Trusler, the sophomore class picked Kade Crosby and Karlee Johnson, the junior class selected Andrew Berngen and Kirsten Bezner, and the senior class voted on Luis Favela and Carson Ingram. The students will vote on the king and queen this week, and they will be crowned prior to the game on Friday.

The Dalhart Texan will have a special Homecoming section in Friday’s edition of the paper with photos of the homecoming court.
