The USDA announced Tuesday that the Obama administration has launched new trade enforcement action against China at the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding government support provided for Chinese rice, wheat and corn.

A second public hearing was held at the Dalhart City Council meeting Tuesday night, September 13, concerning the proposed city tax rate.

The Hartley County Commissioners met Monday morning, September 12, for a regular meeting. There were only two items in addition to their regular agenda. The commissioners adopted the $3.2 million dollar budget and the tax rate of 39 cents per $100 of taxable property value.

A collision involving a milk carrier semitruck and a westbound train occurred Monday at approximately 9:30 a.m. along Highway 807 north of Conlen. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

While heat stress in July and cooler-than-average temperatures in late August may have caused some delays in corn production for the area, Dallam-Hartley AgriLife Extension agent Mike Bragg said the crop remains mostly on schedule.

The Dalhart Police Department is advising area residents to be wary of a scam currently circulating the area.

According to interim police chief Mike Ford, four residents received a phone call from a scammer August 26 stating their child had been kidnapped and demanding ransom money.

Carlos Perez and wife, Adi, along with children Josue, age nine, and Isabella, age five, made the transition one month ago from Houston, Texas, to Dalhart’s Primera Iglesia Bautista where he serves as pastor.

Local artists will have their work on display throughout the month of September at the XIT Museum in Dalhart. The annual exhibit features the work of artists in the Dalhart Fine Arts Association, with work ranging in size and mediums, including acrylic, oil alcohol ink, drawing and water color.
