Chief Talks Crime, Watch ProgramsBy IVY HOLLINGSWORTH Crime reports of theft appear to be rampant in Dalhart, with approximately 110 calls each week to the Dalhart Police Department for thefts, burglaries and suspicious activity in general. Dalhart Police Chief Gary Sinclair, who has been with DPD for nearly five years, noted that crime is only slightly higher compared to the same time last year. Sinclair reported approximately 90 theft and motor vehicle burglaries so far in 2016. >> More

Joe Garcia, Ward Three Council member, had a letter for council members giving his resignation on council as he is moving to another ward. The council accepted his resignation. District Responds To Incident At DISBy IVY HOLLINGSWORTH A recent incident at Dalhart Intermediate School (DIS) involving an alleged threat made to students has parents in the community concerned about their children’s safety while at school and walking to and from school. According to a statement by Dalhart Independent School Police Chief Chanze Fowler, two male students were participating in PE activities at the football stadium and track adjacent to DIS when they were allegedly approached by a Hispanic female with black hair, wearing a polka-dot shirt, denim jacket and blue jeans. The suspect was reportedly driving a gray four-door pickup. >> More
Damage Assessed After Severe Storms
By NIXIE SANDERSON Area residents are continuing to assess the damage from hail and localized flooding resulting from severe storms that rolled through the area Friday night and Saturday. “The storms just kept training over that area,” meteorologist Mike Gittinger, U.S. National Weather Service in Amarillo, said. “Especially Friday night, it was really confined to the western counties in the panhandle and into Oklahoma. >> More
