XIT Melodrama coming to La Rita next week
A longtime tradition of XIT weekend is that a melodrama is per- formed at the La Rita Theatre. This year that melodrama is “The Girl in the Tutu, or the Villain Kept Her on Her Toes.” It will be performed at 7 p.m. on Thursday August 6 and Friday August 7, with a matinee on Saturday August 8 at 2 p.m. to give those at- tending time to make it to the World’s Larg- est Free BBQ.
The melodrama is described like this: “Here is a fast-moving, fun-filled play that mixes melodramatics with show business. A young, handsome theatre student (our hero) tries to assemble a dance act to save his parents’ failing restaurant in the Gold Country of Old Cali- forny. But a crooked con-man shows up with three clumsy dancing girls and a scheme to take over the cafe by plotting murder and cheating two old prospectors out of their newly re- found “lost” goldmine. One of the old guys is the father of a beauti- ful and talented ballet dancer (our heroine) who also gets caught up in the mayhem. The play features a wacky cast, plenty of action and side-split- ting humor.”
Tickets for the melodrama are $20 each, and are available at The Flying Pig at 323 Denrock Avenue. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.larita.org.
