Hartley ISD receives cooler, grant from Dairy MAX
“Fueled by Farmers,” a Dairy MAX program supporting local schools and student-athletes with milk cooler grants, installed a custom-branded, glass-front refrigerator at Hartley High School a couple of weeks ago, on Wednesday July 8. Hartley also received a $2,500 chocolate milk grant from the program.
The cooler that was installed in the Hartley school building is designed to keep milk stocked and cold so that’s ready to use for athlete performance and recovery. This provides a science backed combination of carbohydrates and high-quality protein to help refuel muscles after competition. Local dairy farmers Daniel DeJong with AgriVision Dairies, Monique Smulders with Double S Dairies, and Anthony Alamo with Sunrise Dairy were on hand for the event to highlight the important connec-tion between local dairy farm families and the students they help nourish. Several Hartley students, in particular members of Hartley’s cross country teams, were also there to celebrate the installation of the cooler and the $2,500 chocolate milk grant. Dairy products play an important role in student nutrition and athletic recovery, and this new cooler and the $2,500 grant Fueled by Farmers is a grant program created by Dairy MAX to help schools improve access to dairy by funding the purchase and instal-lation of milk coolers. The program connects students to their local dairy farm while sup-porting school nutri-tion efforts and daily health. Dairy MAX rep-resents dairy farm families across eight states, who together are responsible for producing 15% of all U.S. milk. Their mis-sion is to bring the joy and power of dairy to everyone to create a stronger, healthier to-morrow. By caring for animals, protecting resources and invest-ing in sustainability, farmers are creating a future where dairy becomes the choice that nourishes every life for generations to come.
