DHS seniors receive over half a million in scholarships BY BILL KELLY The annual Dalhart High Scholarship Banquet was held at the Rita Blanca Coliseum on Tuesday May 5. Members of the Dalhart High Class of 2026 ended up receiving more than $500,000 worth of scholarships during the banquet. The biggest local scholarships are the ones given by the Gene & Louise Rahll Foundation, with 10 different students receiving scholarships worth $10,000 each. Recipients this year included Remi Johnson, Addison Ramirez, Victoria Terrazas, Robert Kade Speer, Avi Day, Kammi Maddox, Kirsten Foust, Arianna Chacon, Talon Garcia and Maggie Meeks. Audra Jobe and Victoria Terrazas each received a $1,500 Scot Wright Academic Memorial Scholarship. Kreed Hines received the $500 David Davis Memorial scholarship. Hunter Trusler received the $250 Jim Hutson Music Scholarship. Five students received scholarships from the local Texas Tech Alumni group, which were worth $1,500 each. They included Audra Jobe, Kammi Maddox, Cash Schniederjan, Addison Ramirez and Brandis Beavers. Jobe also received the $1,000 Jay Peeples Red Raider Memorial Scholarship. Zane Van Beek, Remi Johnson, Circe Johnson and Josua Walker each received a $1,000 St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School Alumni Scholarship. Van Beek, Samuel Creed Taylor, and Alejandro Flores each received a $1,000 Robert and Margaret Langer Knights of Columbus Scholarship. There were also seven other Knights of Columbus scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. Those were given to Kirsten Foust, Robert Kade Speer, Maggie Meeks, Hunter Trusler, Avi Day, Talon Garcia and Addison Ramirez. Five students received the Dalhart Rotary Club Academic Scholarships, worth $1,500 each. They included Victoria Terrazas, Brian Gonzalez, Hailey Nolt, Robert Kade Speer and Athan Strebeck. The Dalhart Rotary Club Military Scholarship, worth $5,000, was presented to Marvin Martinez. Kirsten Foust and Addison Ramirez each received a $2,500 Bi-County LEFR-First Responder Scholarship. Kammi Maddox, Circe Johnson, Avi Day and Maggie Meeks each received a $2,500 Down & Dirty Ditching Scholarship. Avi Day, Remi Johnson and Maggie Meeks each received a $1,000 Elks Lodge Scholarship. Meeks, Hudson Siebert, Jaylan Miller and Zane Van Beek each received a $5,000 Rita Blanco Electric Cooperative Scholarship. Siebert and Kirsten Foust each received a $1,000 Xi Delta Gamma Scholarship. Jerze Puga received the $500 All About Kids Scholarship. Audra Jobe received the Wellington State Bank Scholarship for $2,000. Kammi Maddox, Avi Day and Sydni Hyer each received a $1,500 Dallam-Hartley County Healthcare Foundation Scholarship. Kreed Hines and Kirsten Foust each received a $1,000 Les Howard Memorial Scholarship. Five students received the $1,000 Love Like Preston Scholarships. They included Addison Ramirez, Avi Day, Hudson Siebert, Circe Johnson and Victoria Terrazas. Hunter Trusler and Audra Jobe received the Friends of Nancy Young Craig Memorial-Love of Reading Scholarships, worth $500 each. Victoria Terrazas and Addison Ramirez each received a $1,000 Dalhart Youth Basketball-Levi Drew Memorial Scholarship, and Zach Drew also received a Dalhart Youth Basketball-Levi Drew Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500. Six students received the Dallam County 4-H Memorial Scholarships, worth $3,000 each. They included Brandis Beavers, Samuel Creed Taylor, Maggie Meeks, Avi Day, Audra Jobe and Kirsten Foust. Foust, Jobe and Jaylan Miller received $3,000 Bi-County Livestock Show scholarships. Maggie Meeks received the $1,000 District 1 Texas Extension Education Association scholarship. Hailey Nolt received the $500 Dallam County Extension Education Club- Kay Rogers Memorial Scholarship. Samuel Creed Taylor received the Texas Extension Education Association scholarship. Marely Prieto, Jerze Puga, Uriel Perez and Avi Day each received $500 Dalhart Car Cruzers scholarships. Maggie Meeks received the $1,000 XIT A&M Club Dysart-Lasley Memorial Scholarship. Rober Kade Speer, Hailey Nolt and Samuel Creed Taylor each received a $2,000 XIT A&M Club Scholarship, and Meeks received a $1,000 XIT A&M Club Scholarship. Arianna Chacon, Reese Jenkins, Addison Ramirez and Circe Johnson each received a $500 DHS Cheer Scholarship. Hailey Nolt and Maggie Meeks each received a $1,000 National FFA Scholarship from XIT Ford. Brandis Beavers received the AgTexas Youth of the Month scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Six students received Dr. Lowell Catlett Outstanding Achievement Scholarships in different amount. Hailey Nolt received $1,200, Maggie Meeks received $500, Brandis Beavers received $1,000, Jaylan Miller received $300, Audra Jobe received $200, and Jake Byrd received $100. Five seniors received the $1,000 Preston Ralston- Dalhart FFA Booster Club Scholarships. They included Maggie Meeks, Hailey Nolt, Jaylan Miller, Audra Jobe and Brandis Beavers. Beavers also received the Capital Farm Credit-Burke Bell scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Addison Ramirez, Talon Garcia, Audra Jobe and Avi Day each received a $3,000 Bonnie DeJarnett scholarship. Brian Gonzalez received the $1,000 Gaskill Pharis and Pharis Scholarship. Sydni Hyer and Talon Garcia each received a $1,000 Dalhart Ex-Students Scholarship. Brandis Beavers received the$2,000 XIT Rural Telephone Cooperative Inc. Educational Program Scholarship. Samuel Creed Taylor, Hudson Siebert and Kreed Hines each received a $2,000 DeJong Foundation Scholarship. Sydni Hyer and Hunter Trusler each received a $1,500 Bob Thompson Memorial Scholarship. Maggie Meeks received the $500 Damon Whaley Memorial Scholarship. Talon Garcia and Reese Jenkins each received a $500 Earl Smith Scholarship. Sydni Hyer and Alejandro Flores each received a $250 Dalhart Classroom Teachers Association scholarship. Brandis Beavers received the Thoma Scholars Program scholarship, worth $80,000. Kirsten Foust received the MidAmerica Nazarene University Athletic Scholarship worth $18,000, and will play volleyball for that university. Foust also received a $2,500 MidAmerica Nazarene University Honors Program Scholarship. Jaylan Miller received a $250 All-Star Showdown scholarship. Miller also received a $7,000 Clarendon College Livestock Judging Scholarship, and is a finalist for the Texas FFA Scholarship. Maggie Meeks received the $3,000 Clay and Ermyle Cooper Scholarship; the $10 Texas Latino School Board Association Scholarship; and the $1,500 Central Methodist Church Scholarship. Remi Johnson received an $11,000 athletic scholarship from Oklahoma Wesleyan University, and will play volleyball for Oklahoma Wesleyan. Talon Garcia will play football at Hardin- Simmons University and received a $16,000 Hardin-Simmons University Scholarship. Hailey Nolt received a $4,0000 Windmill Scholarship and a $1,000 Texas Holstein Scholarship. Reese Jenkins received an $8,000 University of Arkansas at Little Rock Athletic Scholarship, and will pole vault for that university. Jenkins also received a $4,000 Provost’s Academic Excellence Merit Award and a $4,000 Provost’s Academic Excellence Merit Housing Award. Kammi Maddox received a $4,000 Texas Tech Presidential Merit Scholarship; a $1,000 TREA (Texas Rural Educator’s Association) Scholarship; and a $1,500 Central Methodist Church Scholarship. Hunter Trusler received an OSU (Oklahoma State) McKnight Leader Scholarship worth $20,520. Trusler will play football for OSU, although the scholarship is not linked to athletics. Circe Johnson received a $1,000 Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society scholarship; a $6,000 Oklahoma Wesleyan University Academic GPA Scholarship; a $3,772 Oklahoma Wesleyan University National Teach Scholarship; and an $11,000 Oklahoma Wesleyan University Presidential Leadership and Honors Scholarship. Addison Ramirez received the $10 Texas Latino School Board Scholarship. Ramirez is also the valedictorian of the Class of 2026, and as a result received the Highest Ranking Senior Scholarship worth $11,852. Following the scholarship presentations, the students ranked in the top ten in the class were given a chance to present a teacher with an Im“Pack”ful Leader Award. Addison Ramirez presented hers to Natalie Garcia. Hunter Trusler gave the award to his mom, Lida Trusler. Hailey Nolt presented her award to Rebecca Hokanson. Robert Kade Speer gave Larry Smith the award. Victoria Terrazas gave her award to Paige Pachulhas. Circe Johnson presented the award to Denise Anabrell. Reese Jenkins gave her award to Joe Garcia. Havenn Seaton gave his award to Misty Bornemeier. Brian Gonzalez gave his award to Amy Borunda, and Brandis Beavers gave hers to Andrew Hokanson. Finally, two new members were added to the Dalhart High School Hall of Fame. The former student who was named this year was David Vinson, and the former teacher was Carole Farris.
