Dalhart 7th grade student passes away
Counseling provided to students after loss
Dalhart ISD Superintendent Jeff Byrd released the following statement on Monday April 6:
“It is with an extremely heavy heart to report that the Dalhart ISD Administration was notified on Saturday [April 4] that a 7th grade Dalhart ISD student died as a result of a tragic incident on the night of April 2, 2026. The entire Dalhart ISD community is deeply saddened by this event. Words cannot express the sorrow we feel about the loss of one of our students. We extend our deepest condolences to the student’s family.”
“Due to possible trauma caused by this tragedy, the District is offering crisis intervention and extra counseling resources to students who are impacted by this loss through Region 16 Educational Service Center’s Crisis Team, as well as through the Dalhart Ministerial Alliance. Counseling will be available at Dalhart Junior High, as well as every campus as needed.”
“When any member of the Dalhart ISD community is hurting, it can impact out entire school community. I know our students at every campus will be sensitive to those among them who are struggling with this loss and will encourage their friends in need to seek out the assistance that is being offered. If you are award of any District student who is struggling emotionally with this loss or any other issue, please reach out to your child’s campus principal or counselor so that we can assist the student and his/ her parents to find resources to help them through their difficult time. Working together, we can ensure that all Dalhart ISD students know they are supported.”
“Privacy laws prohibit the District from disclosing any further information about this matter, and therefore, the District will not make any additional comments. We appreciate your cooperation, and continued support for this student’s family. We ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”
