McDonald’s to hold fundraiser

Memorial will include Curtis Brown, Brendan Torres

AMARILLO, TX -- McDonald’s has chosen the Texas Panhandle First Responders Memorial as the next beneficiary of McDonald’s Gives Back Day, which will be Tuesday, November 18th.

On that day, a portion of sales from participating McDonald’s locations in Amarillo, Canyon, Dumas, Dalhart, and Borger will go to the Memorial, which will be located in downtown Amarillo at 11th and Polk.

“The First Responders Memorial is a great community project we are proud to support,” explains Stephanie Khayat, Marketing Coordinator for Mc- Donald’s. “We have always gone above and beyond for our First Responders, and this is just one more way we can express our appreciation for their service and sacrifice.”

The Memorial will honor law enforcement, EMS, and firefighters who have died in the line of duty in the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle - a list that includes more than 100 individuals from 45 area first responding agencies.

“We are very close to breaking ground on the Memorial to honor our region’s fallen heroes,” explains Wendi Swope, who serves on the board tasked with building the First Responders Memorial. “To date, we have raised more than $936,000, and Mc- Donald’s Gives Back Day will push us even closer to our goal of reaching 1 million and beginning construction.”

People can support the Texas Panhandle First Responders Memorial by simply visiting any participating McDonald’s location in Amarillo, Canyon, Dumas, Dalhart, and Borger on Tuesday, November 18th. A portion of all purchases will go directly to Friends of AJ Swope, which is the non-profit overseeing the project.
