DHS student council starts Wolfpack Wardrobe

Clothes closet to benefit those with need

The Dalhart High School student council announced last week that it is starting a clothes closet to benefit students in the Dalhart school district who are economically disadvantaged. Called the “Wolfpack Wardrobe,” it is hoped that this new venture will help make sure that all Dalhart students have clean clothes in good condition to attend school.

Dalhart High senior Victoria Terrazas (who was crowned homecoming queen last Friday), was the one who came up with the idea and went to student council sponsor Laura Amaya. Terrazas knew that the Good Samaritan in Dalhart had stopped taking clothes to focus on food distribution, so she wanted students to have another way to find nice clothes if they couldn’t afford to go buy new clothing.

Only students who attend Dalhart ISD will be allowed to “shop” at the Wolfpack Wardrobe. In order to be allowed access to the closet, a student must either be part of the migrant program at the school, or be recommended by a teacher, counselor or mentor.

The Wolfpack Wardrobe accepted its first donations last Saturday, September 27, and will have accept clothing on two different Saturdays each month. Items donated should be “gently used” (so no stained or ripped clothing) and should be washed prior to being donated. The clothing items that will be accepted are the following:

• Jeans-must be school appropriate (any holes should be mid-thigh or lower.)
• Shirts-shoulders should be at least three inches in width
• Shoes-not ripped, but open-toed shoes are accepted
• Backpacks
• Lunch boxes
• Metal water bottles
• Undergarments- only new undergarments will be accepted, nothing used.

The location of the Wolfpack Wardrobe is the old Intermediate Band Hall at 800 Peach Avenue. As mentioned, there will be two drop-off days per month, which will be advertised in advance on social media. Anyone who can’t make it on a drop-off day can email wolfpackwardrobe@ dalhartisd.org to make arrangements to donate items.
