The annual Strike- Out Cancer softball tournament will be held this Saturday, September 13, at the city softball fields across from Twisted Elms Golf Club on Highway 54. All the funds raised will be used to help local cancer patients.
Along with the money made from the teams that entered the tournament, there will be other fundraising efforts going on throughout the day. There is a silent auction with a number of items donated by different local businesses. In the past these have included gift certificates to different restaurants and other businesses, gift baskets with items from tools, and many other items. There are also raffles for cash prizes, and a raffle for two tickets to the NASlocal stores, different CAR race in Dallas/ Ft. Worth next May.
One of the highlights of the evening each year is the display of luminarias. Anyone interested can decorate a luminaria in honor of someone who has been lost to cancer for a small donation. Before the final game, those luminaria bags are lit and lined up along the base paths.
