ArchivesWeather leads to high number of car crashes in Amarillo area last weekWeather leads to high number of car crashes in Amarillo area last weekAlthough no major vehicular accidents were reported in Dallam or Hartley counties last week due to high winds, the Texas Department of Public Safety investigated 42 crashes Friday, March 14, in the Amarillo District due to the severe weather conditions that created extremely low visibility in many areas from the blowing dirt. These numbers include three fatality crashes (four deceased), as well as the large pileup south of Canyon, which involved approximately 38 vehicles. There is still not a confirmed number of vehicles in that crash. Most of the crashes investigated involved multiple (more than two) vehicles, according to DPS officials.
