ERC will celebrate opening with 9/11 Mobile Museum to remind visitors to “NEVER FORGET”

It has been nearly 24 years since the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were bombed by terrorists, causing their collapse, but most Americans who were alive at the time will never forget where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news. And that’s the mission of a mobile museum exhibit coming to Dalhart in a few days.

The Tunnel to Towers 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit will arrive in town on Wednesday, March 26. It will be open for school field trips on Thursday, the 27th, and open to the public on Friday and Saturday, March 28th and 29th. The Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department is bringing the exhibit to help celebrate the grand opening of the Emergency Response Center, 609 Liberal Street. The newly renovated building now includes the Dalhart Police Department, Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department and local Emergency Medical Services under one roof.

The Tunnel to Towers exhibit is a tribute to all who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, including the 343 members of the Fire Department of New York City who made the ultimate sacrifice, and all who continue to lose their lives to 9/11-related illnesses. Since 2013, the Tunnel to Towers 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit has traveled the country educating Americans about what took place that day. The hightech 83-foot tractor-trailer transforms into a 1,100 square foot exhibit which features World Trade Center Steel, aluminum facade from the buildings, radio transmissions from first responders, and items found in the rubble after the Twin Towers collapsed.

Tours are conducted by retired New York City Firefighters who responded on 9/11/01. They share their stories of what happened that day and the days after, bringing history to life for those who were born after September 11th or are too young to remember it. The 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit, which has traveled to nearly 50 states and Canada, has educated over one million people to date.

There is no admission charge to tour the exhibit, and it will be open from noon to 6:00 p.m. March 28. Tours will also be given of the new ERC.

Grand opening ceremonies for the ERC will begin at 11:00 a.m. March 29 with a Ribbon Cutting hosted by the Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce. Local dignitaries will speak, and tours will be available. The exhibit will also be open to visitors until 6:00 p.m., and souvenirs will be available for purchase.
