Norris blows his way to the top – qualifies for All-State Band!
Barron qualifies for Area
On Jan. 11, two members of the Dalhart High School Golden Wolves Band competed at the Area round for a chance to earn a spot in the Association of Texas Small School Bands 3A All-State Band. Jacob Norris, senior Alto Saxophone player, and Gizel Barron, freshman trumpet player, earned this honor.
To qualify for State, musicians must earn first place among 12 students in their Area. Dalhart’s area, Area A, covers a vast region stretching, from the Panhandle down to El Paso and over to San Angelo/ Abilene. Only one musician from each Area is selected for the All-State Band.
Jacob achieved this incredible feat by placing 1st in his Area, earning a coveted spot in the ATSSB All-State Band! This accomplishment places Jacob among the top 2% of Texas band students. It’s a monumental achievement, especially considering that it has been a goal he’s worked towards since his freshman year. He came close last year by placing 3rd at Area, just two spots away from qualifying.
Gizel earned 14th place in Area.
“We are so proud of these two for everything they’ve accomplished,” said Golden Wolves Band Director Joshua Bell. Assistant Director Abbey Trach agreed. “It’s just awesome to see their hard work paying off,” she said. “And to see Jacob continuing Dalhart High School’s legacy of having someone in the All State Band is incredible!”
Jacob's All State Band concert will take place in San Antonio during the Texas Music Education Association convention at the Lila Cockrell Theater on February 15th at 9:00 a.m.
