Southeast Side sans power for most of Saturday

A single-vehicle accident apparently snapped a power pole near Jefferson and 5th Streets early Saturday morning, leaving 631 Excel customers in southeast Dalhart without electricity for over 13 hours, according to a spokesman for the electric company. The outage was reported at 2:18 a.m. on January 11, and power was finally restored 13 hours and 19 minutes later.

Arelitzel Chavez, 35, was arrested in the 600 block of Jenny and charged with Duty on Striking Fixture/Hwy. Landscape, a Class B misdemeanor.

Despite numerous claims on social media, no one had contacted the City of Dalhart, Dallam Hartley Counties Hospital District, Dallam Area Chamber of Commerce or Dalhart Texan to report any losses or injuries due to the accident or power outage.
