BOB DUKE TRAMPLED BY CATTLE

Carrying the imprint of a cow’s hoof on the back of his head and another on his breast, and with several ribs torn loose from their moorings, Bob Duke, prominent cattleman, is stepping about as briskly as usual and says you can’t keep a good man down.

While loading some cattle Saturday in the Texline yards, a number of “locoed” cows became enraged and made a rush up the hall way of the pens, knocking him down and trampling him under foot. Numbers of cows went over him before he could get out of the way, kicking and pawing at him until it looked like but little would be left of the old-time cowman save his experience in the cattle business. After the accident, he made the trip to Dalhart with but little inconvenience or suffering, and received prompt attention. But you just have to take his word for it that “it didn’t hurt much.” Some of his friends think that he became hardened to every kind of punishment during the years that all cattlemen experienced financial distress and that it will take more than a few cows to put him out of business.
