XIT Royalty crowned at Coon and Legacy facilities

Each year, Coon Memorial Nursing Home and Legacy Assisted Living Facility join in the spirit of the XIT Rodeo & Reunion by electing a Rodeo King and Queen. The winners were selected by secret ballot among staff members, then crowned Monday morning.

The Rodeo King for Coon Memorial Nursing Home is James Stroud. Born in Spearman, TX, he worked for the City of Amarillo for many years. He has three children. He loves to listen to music, watch television, visit with others and attend parties. He used to enjoy dominoes, comping, fishing and bowling. He was a State Champion domino player who played in domino tournaments across the state of Texas. Every year for 26 years, he made a trip to the mountains with his family so they could spend time together. He has been a resident of the home since March 2024.

The Coon Memorial Rodeo Queen is Phyllis Anderson, born in Monte Vista, CO. She has XIT Royalty crowned at Coon and Legacy facilities three children and two stepchildren. She previously owned Whitney Oil in Felt, OK, where she was known for her Phyllis Burgers, for many years. She loves playing bingo, bowling, reading and visiting. Her favorite flowers are roses and peonies. She has been a resident of Coon Memorial since May 2024.

This year’s XIT King for Legacy Assisted Living Facility may be a familiar face, as this is his second time wearing the crown. Denton Nightengale spends his time enjoying his exercises, taking care of his fish and putting a smile on every face that he comes across. The community wouldn’t be quite the same without his smile and his infectious laughter filling it!

Legacy’s XIT Queen this year is Cheryle Langhorne. She spends her time at Legacy enjoying an old western on the television from time to time and being sure to let the staff know they’re doing a great job often!
