ArchivesThe Secret (Garden) lives again...The Secret (Garden) lives again...The Secret Garden is back…on Saturday, July 27. Once a popular fundraiser for the Dalhart Garden Club, the project lay dormant for several years before being revived by the Eta Upsilon Sorority this year. Described as “like the Tour of Homes, but for backyards” by the group, Saturday’s event comes with some fun additional features. The $15 ticket grants the holder access to the five beautiful yards on display, with refreshments at each stop. The secret is the locations – they won’t be revealed until the day of the tour. The Secret Garden Tour runs from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., and the sites will be posted outside La Rita Theatre earlier that day. Tickets can be purchased in advance from any Eta Upsilon member or at any stop on the tour. The evening will end at 9:00 p.m. at the Blind Pig Room, located behind the Flying Pig on 107 W. 4th Street, for a complimentary wine slush for those 21 and older. There, ticketholders will be entered in a drawing for $1,000, sponsored by First State Bank. Proceeds will benefit the Hartley Schools Cheer Program and the Teacher Scholarship Fund, which assists teachers in Channing, Dalhart, Hartley and Texline with supplementing their classroom supply budgets. “We try to focus on what the needs in our area are and work on how best to fill them” said Sorority member Celeste Venegas. “We’ve heard great things about this event and we’re really excited!” For the full story SUBSCRIBE to the online edition of The Dalhart Texan, call (806) 244-4511 to setup a subscription to our physical paper or pick a copy up at one of our many convenient news rack locations.
