XIT Rodeo and The Twilight Fund team up to boot cancer costs
In a new effort this year, XIT Rodeo & Reunion organizers and The Twilight Cancer Fund are teaming up to “Give Cancer the Boot!”
During the rodeo on Friday and Saturday nights, Aug. 2 and 3, boots will be passed through the crowd for donations. There will also be donation boxes at the food lines for the pork chop and barbeque feeds on Friday and Saturday.
The Twilight Cancer Fund is a local nonprofit organization that was founded in 2012 by Jay and Michelle Peeples upon learning of Michelle’s cancer diagnosis. Even for those with insurance, the cost of battling cancer can be overwhelming, and the fund we created to help ease the financial burden during the fight.
Michelle Peeples passed away on Dec. 15, 2013. In her honor, the XIT Rodeo and The Twilight Fund team up to boot cancer costs fund has distributed over a quarter of a million dollars ($276,000) to date and helped hundreds of local individuals in their cancer fight. Donations raised in Dalhart help Dalhart people.
The Twilight Cancer Fund is a local nonprofit 501(c)3 organization with local Dalhart residents serving on the board of directors. The board is made up of Jay and Natalie Peeples, Selene Schumacher, Tracy White, Kelly Whitcavitch, Tammy Schniederjan and Kari Bezner.
This year’s rodeo theme is “Time Marches On,” but when someone learns of a cancer diagnosis, time stands still. XIT Rodeo & Reunion and The Twilight Fund directors fully understand the impact of this diagnosis, and that is the reason for this campaign. They thank everyone in advance for the financial support to give hope, help and more time to those who battle the disease. Any donation is greatly appreciated! Look for the donation boxes, boots being passed or anyone wearing a Give Cancer the Boot shirt. Together Dalhart can “Give Cancer the Boot”!
