Cerise Merritt Ripps / The Dalhart Texan An Independence Day to RememberDalhart celebrated the 4th of July in laidback style, with an outdoor cookout and concert at Lake Rita Blanca Park Thursday evening. Hot dogs and hamburgers were provided by the Dalhart Police Department and Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department, with more than 700 served. Aniston Pate returned to her hometown to provide musical entertainment. Children cavorted in the bounce house and everywhere else they could, while adults spread out under the shade. Activities were organized by the Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce and, after dark, the Dalhart Rotary Club sponsored a spectacular fireworks show manned by local pyrotechnician Mark Hanbury. It was truly a small town holiday, one that we hope will become an annual tradition. Dalhart Police Sgt Erica Trevino, Firefighter Jadon Cross and Police Cadet Katie Campa (left to right) prepare hamburgers to serve to the crowd at the July 4th community party at Lake Rita Blanca Park.
