ArchivesBut will there be birthday cake? But will there be birthday cake?Come celebrate our country’s 248th birthday tomorrow evening with the Dalhart Police and Fire Departments! For the second year in a row, local first responders are giving back to the community they serve by serving up free hamburgers and hot dogs July 4th at the west side of the Rita Blanca Coliseum. The event will run from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. “We were amazed, but surprised, at the response we got last year, and we felt bad that we ran out of food,” said Dalhart Chief of Police Tommy Hughes. “This year we doubled up, and we’re going to be ready!” In addition to the burgers and hot dogs the fun will include face painting, snow cones, live music, a dunk tank and water polo. The Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce helped organize activities. Aniston Pate will perform from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Watermelon Park, thanks to the City of Dalhart. A community fireworks display, sponsored by the Dalhart Rotary Club, will be held at the Lake Rita Center Park around 10 p.m. Local certified pyrotechnician Mark Hanbury is donating his services for the event.
