Train vs. semi-truck equals one life lost

A Dallam County collision Tuesday afternoon between a semi-truck and train claimed the life of Rene Almenares-Durand, 48, of Dodge City, KS, the driver of the truck. Neither train conductor, Brett Randall, 26, or Coby Barrow, 48, both of Dalhart, were injured.

The accident occurred at 2:45 p.m. March 26 at FM 807 and Hwy. 54 East in Conlen. The semi-truck. towing a tanker, was traveling south on FM 807 while a train was traveling northeast. The truck driver failed to yield right of way at the rail crossing and was struck by the train.

The driver was wearing a seatbelt, and the crash is under investigation. The Dalhart Volunteer Fire Dept., Stratford Volunteer Fire Dept., Dalhart EMS, Dallam County Sheriffs Office, Hartley County Sheriffs Office and Sherman County Sheriffs Office responded to the call.
