“New” principals announced for two campuses
Dalhart High School and Junior High School will both be led by new but familiar faces come August. Current DJHS principal Staci Maddox will take over leadership duties at the high school, Jeff Byrd, superintendent for Dalhart Independent School District, announced Tuesday night at the regular school board meeting. Kurtis Abla, who currently serves as vice-principal at the junior high campus, has been promoted to its principal.
“We are so blessed to have these people with us,” Byrd said. “We could have opened this up to an outside search, but I am 1000% sure that we have the right people for these jobs.”
“Being offered the position as Dalhart Junior School Principal is certainly an honor. I am so appreciative of Mr. Byrd and the school board to be given this opportunity to both lead and serve our amazing junior high school staff and students. As we look ahead to the 2024-2025 school year, we will continue to strive towards excellence in every area. The current leadership and staff have laid a solid foundation for success and as we prepare for the new school year, we will continue to build on this foundation. Our top priorities will continue to be safety and security, high academic expectations and success, and promoting a positive campus culture. Dalhart Junior High will continue the legacy of providing an exemplary education for all students by providing high quality instruction from dedicated teachers.”
Maddox did not respond to the request for comment.
