The 18-yearold Future Farmers of America member said she was “very shocked and excited” when the judge singled her out. “I had a huge smile on my face!” she added. Haliey also won Reserve Grand Champion Heifer at the Bi-County Stock Show held locally last month. Although this is only Haliey’s second year to show calves, she is experienced in the show ring, having raised and shown pigs since third grade. In 2021 she won Gilt Show Breed Champion at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo. After graduation, Haliey plans to study Farm Management at Frank Phillips College and work at Crane Show Pigs in Pritchett, CO. She and her mother, Bridgett, both voiced their appreciation to Kent Gordon with Cross G Shorthorns in Dalhart, where they bought Cumberland Pearl and where they will resell her at the end of the stock show season. “This was Haliey’s first big win with a calf at a major show,” Bridgett said of Fort worth. “We were elated. It was surreal, and it made all the hard work worth it!” For the full story SUBSCRIBE to the online edition of The Dalhart Texan, call (806) 244-4511 to setup a subscription to our physical paper or pick a copy up at one of our many convenient news rack locations.
