Chilly outside? Chili inside at Fire Dept. Supper

The Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department is planning now for the annual chili and stew supper to be held March 2 at Rita Blanca Coliseum. The meal of chili, stew, beans, dessert and drink will cost $10 per plate and will be served from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Dinein and carry-out are both available, with a separate drive-through carry-out line. Tickets are on sale now from any firefighter, at the Fire Station and at The Dalhart Texan.

Sponsorships are also available beginning at $100; this includes 10 tickets and a cap, plus publicity at the event. Each additional $100 sponsorship receives another 10 tickets and cap. Sponsorships may be purchased up to the day of the event.

“This is the only fundraiser the volunteer firefighters have each year, so it’s important to us,” said organizer Shiloh Watts. “This is our 119th year to have this, but there was a misprint on the tickets so they say 116th.” He added that all money raised goes toward training and equipment. Last year the firefighters served approximately 1,500 plates; they hope to match or better that number this year.
