School trustees extend Byrd’s contract

Dalhart school trustees voted their confidence in Superintendent Jeff Byrd Tuesday evening by extending his contract from June 30, 2026 to June 30, 2027. Byrd said that he earned a score of “proficient” in most areas of his annual evaluation but was given goals to improve audit scores. He exceeded expectations in community relations.

In other personnel matters, the board agreed to hire George Page as high school science teacher for the 2024-25 school year and transfer Elizabeth Flores from elementary school assistant teacher to associate teacher. Approved changes at the intermediate school involved transferring Laura Cordova from receptionist to assistant teacher, transferring Jennifer Hernandez from educational aide to receptionist, and hiring Daisha Simmons as inclusion educational aide. Trustees also voted to accept the resignation of elementary English as a Second Language teacher Mayra Moreno.

The board called the May 4, 2024 Trustee Election. Bob Bailey, president, and Reynaldo Encinias are up for reelection. Packets can be picked up at the Dalhart Independent School District Superintendent Office, 701 E 10th St., Dalhart, TX.
