Local seniors honored in special section

The Texline Class of 2023 graduated last Friday, May 19, and the Class of 2023 for Dalhart High, Hartley High and Channing High will graduate this week. A special keepsake graduation section honoring these seniors is included in this edition of the Dalhart Texan.
As everyone now knows, Dalhart High senior Eric Ruiz passed away suddenly on the afternoon of Thursday May 18 (there is a separate article about that death in this edition.) Due to the fact that special sections are printed at a different location from the regular newspaper, the keepsake edition was actually in the process of being printed when that happened, so there was no chance to make any changes. His photo, and a brief bio, are included in the section. There is also a message to the Class of 2023 in the edition that mentions the fact that the class had to suffer two losses this year with the deaths of Yahir Cancino and Preston Ralston. If there had been a chance, that message would’ve probably been very different after this tragedy.
There are also two local students who attended other schools who are graduating this year. The intention was to include them in the keepsake edition, but through an inadvertent accident, that didn’t happen. Instead, bios of those two students are below and their photos are included with this article. We hope that all the students and their families enjoy the special graduation keepsake edition. Kyrsten Layman is the daughter of Michael and Shannon Layman, and is graduating from Ignite Christian Academy. During high school, Kyrsten was a senior company dancer at Lonestar Ballet in Amarillo, performing in all of their productions for three years. She was a dance teacher in Dalhart for Lonestar Ballet during her senior year. After high school, Kyrsten plans to attend Charis Bible College to pursue the ministry.
Angelina Lucas is the daughter of Amanda Lucas. During high school, she participated in the Ride-Along program, speech and debate, Science Club and has been employed at The Dust Bowl Bar & Grill since it first opened. Her favorite quote is “Become the best that you can possibly be.” After high school, Angelina plans to enlist in the United States Army.
