The Second Biennial Thunder Over Dalhart Airshow will be held at the Dalhart Municipal Airport this weekend, Saturday May 20 and Sunday May 21. The show will be from 1-4 p.m. each day, with the same show both days.

The gates will open at 9 a.m. to give spectators plenty of time to get there. The main entrance will off FM 998 and thru the Dalhart prison entrance to the general parking area at the south end of the airport. The airport road will be used for vendors, performers, volunteers, airport tenants, and those who purchase VIP parking. Special credentials will be needed to use that road. There will be law enforcement and parking attendants to guide people to the appropriate parking area. No pets, drones, coolers or outside food or drinks will be allowed into the show. There will be free golf carts rides available.

The first airshow was held two years ago in May 2021, and was an even bigger success than was originally expected. Plans began almost immediately for the next airshow, and the decision was made to hold one biennially (every other year.)

The Patriot Parachute Team will jump w/ a huge American flag as the Ladies for Liberty are singing the National Anthem at the start of the airshow. During the airshow the Ladies will mingle in the crowd and sing old World War II songs like the famous “Andrews Sisters” sang to the US troops during the war.

Mike “Spanky” Galloway will be flying a flip-flopping performance w/smoke streaming out the tail of his Extra 330 and he is also the announcer for the show. Jason Newburg will be flying in the “Pitts Viper” and Jodi Rueger in her Pitts S-1S which are both bi-planes. Tom Larkin will be flying his “Mini Jet,” with high-speed passes in front of the crowd.

Mark Smith will be driving the world’s fastest jet truck “Aftershock, which can reach up to 407 mph. It will bolt down the runway with a large flame shooting out the back and flames shooting up and out the exhaust pipes.

Beth Jenkins, who is one three female pilots at the show, will be flying the historical B-25 Devil Dog. She is selling rides on the B-25 at devildogsquadron. com. Kyle Franklin will be performing his act, Franklin Flying Circus, which could include running thru the crowd, stealing a plane and much more.

Dewey Larson will have his Top Gun Experience F/A-18 fighter Jet Cockpit. Spectators get to pick a helmet, climb into the jet and have their take photo taken, making them look like a fighter jet pilot. The airshow will also have Maverick and Iceman impersonators, and those in attendance can take a selfie with them.

The headliner of the show is the A-10 Thunderbolt II Demo Team with pilot Lindsay “MAD” Johnson, another of the female pilots. She will demonstrate the capabilities of the USAF A-10. During her performance there will be simulated pyrotechnics, including strafing machine gun fire, small bombs and then a bomb that’s a massive 300-foot wall of flames. The pyrotechnics are provided by “Blastards Pyro.”

There will also be a P-51 Mustang USAF Heritage Flight with pilot Tommy Williams, which will fly in formation with the A-10 to honor veterans. The F/A-18 Red Devils are also coming and were a late addition to the airshow. They are a United States Marine Corps group out of Miramar, California.

The show will also have food vendors, bounce houses, a car show with the Dalhart Cruzers, an aircraft static display and more.
