Rahll Activity Center to host grand opening tomorrow, Jan. 21

DALHART, TEXAS – The Rahll Activity Center Board of Directors is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Rahll Activity Center on January 21.

The new recreational center, located at 802 Maple Street in Dalhart, will offer a host of activities, including rock climbing, indoor soccer, basketball, a golf simulator, a walking track, pickleball, and batting cages. A grand opening event will take place January 21 from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., starting with a ribbon cutting, and the public is invited to tour the new facility and enjoy a free lunch.

“We are excited to finally open this long-awaited facility,” said Jeff Lloyd, Wellington State Bank Senior Vice President and Rahll Activity Center Board President. “We encourage everyone to come out to the grand opening to take a look at everything the RAC has to offer.”

The new facility and renovations of existing Dalhart Independent School District property were funded by former mayor of Dalhart, Gene Rahll and his wife Louise.

“This activity center is needed in town. We have some facilities but not much and certainly not one that will cover everything from little kids to old folks like us,” said Gene. “It is for the community, it’s not for us— you know, we don’t have much time here we’re in our 90s.”

The RAC will be managed locally by Dannie Claycomb, with operational support from Kids, Inc. in Amarillo. Kids, Inc. is an affordable youth sports program with a mission to provide quality year-round sporting activities, while ensuring that every child who desires to participate has the opportunity to do just that.

“I am thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to be on the ground floor in the opening of the Rahll Activity Center,” said Claycomb. “The generosity, passion, and aspirations of everyone on the board, as well as the Kids, Inc. staff has been inspiring. Just the idea that it took one couple, with a love for soccer and community, to create such a life changing establishment is absolutely heartwarming. I look forward to witnessing all the positive impacts that this center will bring to Dalhart and the surrounding areas.”
