Texas Brigades

By Jacob Meyer
Special to the Dalhart

Hi, my name is Jacob Meyer. I attended the North Texas Buckskin Brigade this past July. I really enjoyed my time there and learned a lot about natural resource management, plant identification, and conservation. I highly recommend that any 13- 17 year-old who enjoys the outdoors apply to one of these camps. I want to tell you a little about what Texas Brigades is all about.

Texas Brigades is a conservation-focused leadership development program. There are nine camps: Bobwhite Brigade (Rolling Plains and South Texas), Buckskin Brigade (North Texas and South Texas), Ranch Brigade (North Texas and South Texas), Bass Brigade, Waterfowl Brigade, and Coastal Brigade.

The camps are led by field professionals who have many years of experience. Each camp lasts five days, and these days are packed full of activities from sun up to sun down.
