Barber Named Hereford Junior Herdsman of the Year

Bryden Barber of Channing, Texas, was honored as the 2022 Hereford Junior Herdsman of the Year on July 22 during the 2022 VitaFerm Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE), Banners in the Bluegrass, in Louisville, Ky. He was awarded a $2,500 scholarship sponsored by the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) and Sullivan Supply.

Barber was also recognized as the Walter and Joe Lewis High Point senior. One of the most coveted and historic awards at the JNHE, recognizing overall achievement in leadership, teamwork, skills and competition. Barber was awarded a scholarship of $1,000.

Barber is the son of Brett Barber and Nicole Barber and plays a key role in his family’s Hereford operation alongside as the fifth generation. Bryden is currently a junior at Oklahoma State University pursuing an animal science degree. After completing his undergraduate studies at OSU, Barber plans to continue his education by pursuing a master’s degree from Texas A&M University and later returning home to begin his own cow-calf operation.

Barber enjoys the opportunity to exhibit at the JNHE each summer because of the networking, competition and opportunities within the breed. His passion to continue the family tradition of raising Herefords stems from the opportunities he has been given as a junior member. “It is truly a humbling experience to be a candidate and selected as the 22 Herdsman of the Year,” Barber says.
