Central UMC commissions new Stephen Ministers

Central United Methodist Church recently commissioned four new Stephen Ministers. There are now 14 Stephen Ministers active in the ministry, including Stephen Leaders. Stephen Ministry is a not-for-profit, is nondenominational Christian educational organization.

Founded in 1975 by Reverend Kenneth C. Haugk, a pastor and clinical psycologist, Dr. Haugk saw the great need of hurting people but had difficulty visiting with all the people that he felt needed care. Stephen Ministers bridge the gap between friends and family and pastors to provide quality one-on-one care. The organization is based in St. Louis, and is named for Stephen, who was the first layperson commissioned by the Apostles to provide ministry to those in need. (Acts 6:1-6).

Stephen Ministry equips, mobilizes, and engages laypeople to walk alongside others during difficult times and gives the training and support to use their gifts, background and life experiences in ministry that is Christ-centered and highly confidential.

If you know of anyone who is in need of this type of care, please call the church office at Central United Methodist Church at 806– 244–2306 and a Stephen Leader will be in touch.
