Bi-County Livestock Show closes out with sale

The 2022 Bi-County Livestock Show ended after four days with the buyer’s lunch and sale on Saturday January 8 at the Rita Blanca Coliseum. Approximately 150 4-H and FFA students from Dalhart, Channing, Hartley and Texline took part in the annual event.

The steer and heifer show was conducted in the afternoon of Wednesday January 5. 15 steers and 11 heifers were shown during the exhibition. Georgia Bezner had the Grand Champion Steer, and Elli-Kate Bezner showed the Reserve Grand Champion Steer. Judd Daniels exhibited the Grand Champion Heifer, and Kinsey Thomas had the Reserve Grand Champion.

The lamb show and goat show were conducted Thursday January 6. The numbers were almost equal, with 39 lambs and 41 goats being shown during the day. Jaylan Miller had the Grand Champion lamb, and Payton Ralston had the Reserve Grand Champion lamb. Sam Gustin actually exhibited both the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion goats.

The swine show and the rabbit show were held on Friday January 7. There were 133 swine shown during the show, and over 30 rabbits. Braely Heiser had the Grand Champion swine this year, and Allison Lackie exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion. Sydni Hyer showed the Grand Champion rabbit, and Kirsten Foust had the Reserve Grand Champion.

Prior to the sale on Saturday, the winners of this year’s Bi-County Livestock Show scholarships. In the past, there have been four scholarships given out, but due to an increase in donations there were five scholarships given out this year. Those scholarships were presented to Madelyn Bailey, Hannah Bierbaum, Allison Lackie, Thomas Meyer and Brendan Torres, who are all seniors at Dalhart High School.

Complete results of this year’s Bi-County Livestock Show, including places in the various classes and divisions and breed champions and reserve breed champions, will be published in the special Bi-County Livestock Show keepsake edition of the Dalhart Texan on Friday January 28, along with many more photos.
