Local 4-H students compete at state in shooting sports

Dallam and Hartley County 4-H members recently competed in the Texas 4-H Shooting Sports State Games. The Texas 4-H Shooting Sports Program offers a wide range of competitions in many disciplines over two weeks each July in Manor and San Antonio.

Competitions kicked off July 11-16 in Manor at the Austin Rifle Club with Hunting & Wildlife, Muzzle Loading, Pistol, and Rifle. Then continued July 20-24 at the National Shooting Sports Complex in San Antonio with Archery and Shotgun. 

Barrett Bezner, Dallam County Senior 4-H Member and a sophomore at Texline ISD, competed in the NASP Division of the Archery Games. Blair Dahl, Hartley County Senior 4-H Member and sophomore at Channing ISD, competed in the Compound Aided Division. Blair also represented Hartley County as a Texas State 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador and member of the Texas State 4-H National Compound Archery Team at the State Games by participating in set up, opening ceremonies, and award presentations. Blaine Dahl, Hartley County Junior 4-H Member and fifth grader at Channing ISD, competed in the Compound Aided Division. 

Archers chose to compete in all five events offered at the games, including Modified 600, Wand, Clout, 3-D, and Field. Bezner won AllAround in the Senior NASP Division placing first in Field, second in 3-D, third in Modified 600, and fourth in Wand. Blair Dahl placed second in Senior Compound Aided Modified 600, fifth in Field, and sixth in 3-D. Blaine Dahl placed third in Junior Compound Aided Clout, third in Modified 600, third in Field. and fifth in 3-D. Blair and Blaine also competed in the Team Relay as the final event on Saturday before awards were presented.
