THE DALHART TEXAN

The Dalhart Lady Wolves played their first home volleyball games in a month on Tuesday September 7, taking on former district rival Borger. All three teams won their matches in straight sets on a successful night for the Lady Wolves.

Borger scored the first point in the first set of the varsity game, but the Lady Wolves quickly came back to score three straight points to take the lead. The score stayed close for the next few points until Dalhart held a 6-5 lead, and then the Lady Wolves four straight to extend the lead to 10-5.

Borger scored three straight points to make it 10-8, and then the Lady Wolves started a long scoring streak, scoring nine points in a row to make it 19-8 Dalhart. Senior Alexis Davila was the server for Dalhart on eight of those points. Borger scored one more point, and then the Lady Wolves closed the first set out with another six straight points to win the set 25-9. That gave Dalhart a 1-0 lead in the game.

Katelynn Hickey started as Dalhart’s server in the second set and the Lady Wolves scored seven straight points to open up a huge lead before the Lady Bulldogs finally scored three straight to make it 7-3 in favor of Dalhart. The Lady Wolves then outscored Borger 10-4 over the next 14 points to take a 17-7 lead. The teams basically exchanged points for the rest of the match, and the Lady Wolves won by 10 points, 25-15. That put Dalhart up 2-0 in the game.

The Lady Bulldogs did their best to come back during the third set, but fell just a little short. The set was tied early at 2-2, and then Dalhart scored five of the next six to take a 7-3 lead. Borger fought back though, and tied the set up at 9-9 before taking a 13-9 lead.

The Lady Wolves slowly closed the gap to tie the score at 16-16, and the teams then went backand-forth until the game was tied 18-18. An error in rotation by Borger helped the Lady Wolves take a 20- 18 lead, and Dalhart went on to win the set 25-22 and win the game 3-0

Rhiana Todd led the Lady Wolves with 18 kills. Avery Baca added eight kills, and Dylan Moore had four. Jadyn Trusler had 35 assists for Dalhart to lead the team. Danielle Lewis had two blocks and Moore, Trusler and Baca each had one block. Davila led the team with four aces, and Hickey added two. Todd had 11 digs and McKenzie Powers added eight.

The Dalhart freshmen and JV teams also swept Borger on Tuesday, with each team winning 2-0.

The Lady Wolves played at Pampa on Friday September 3. Pampa won that game in three close sets, winning the first set 25-23, the second 25-17, and the third 25-20. The freshmen team won their game 2-0, and the Pampa won the JV game 2-0.

Dalhart plays Perryton tomorrow, Saturday September 11 at home. The freshmen and JV are both scheduled to play at 1 p.m., and the varsity will start at 2 p.m.
