2021 XIT tractor pull results released

There was a good turnout for the first postpandemic Annual XIT Antique Tractor Show & Pull that is held each year during the XIT celebration. This was the 26th Tractor Pull for the XIT Association.

The purpose in putting on a tractor pull is for education, fun, entertainment, and friendly competition. Tractors participating in the pull must be from 1960 or older, including tractors whose series started before 1960. The pull is conducted under NATPA rules with a few minor modifications.

The tractors compete in different divisions and weight classes to see who can pull the weight sleds the furthest. Tractors came from Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, Dumas, Umbarger and of course the Dalhart area. Plaques were given for the first and second place winners in each weight class of each of the four divisions.

A trophy was also given to the driver t r a v e l i n g the furthest distance to c o m p e t e , the oldest driver and the youngest driver. This year the winner for traveling the furthest distance was Frank Duvall from Lamar, Colorado; he also won the oldest driver trophy since he is 85 years young. The youngest driver was Eva Scales from El Paso. She is the 14-year-old granddaughter of Wayne Speer.

Pokey the Clown, Doug Smith from Panhandle, helped once again with flagging the tractors for starts and stops.

The XIT Antique Tractor Association wanted to give a big thanks to Pokey, who has helped for over 20 years and also provides a sound system, shade for spectators, and Sonic water and Plains chocolate milk for all drivers and helpers. The XIT Antique Tractor Association wanted to thank the many businesses and individuals who sponsored us this year. Thanks to those sponsors, the hook fee was kept at five dollars. They also wished to thank all the volunteers who helped put on the pull, including those who helped with track preparation and pullback, and the scraper and packer drivers and sled operators. A special thanks is also given to Sandra Schneider, Gayle Groen, Joyce Speer, Sarah, Hannah and Abbye and Eva Scales for scheduling, record keeping and announcing.
