Jasmine’s Fight 3-on-3 tournament raises $3,500

A “Jasmine’s Fight” 3-on-3 basketball tournament to raise money for Jasmine Bustillos and her family was held on Wednesday June 23 at the Dalhart High gyms.

Bustillos is an incoming junior at Dalhart High and has been a cheerleader her entire time in high school. She suffered a very severe head injury right before school ended, and had to be airlifted to Amarillo and has since been flown to Dallas for further treatment. A number of fundraisers are being held in Dalhart to help her family pay for all the expenses that are accumulating from the injury.

Two members of the Dalhart Lady Wolves’ athletic teams, junior Maddy Stady and sophomore Dylan Moore, got together and organized the 3-on-3 tournament as another fundraiser for the Bustillos family. Stady is in the same grade as Bustillos, and plays volleyball with her. Moore also plays volleyball with Bustillos, and is also a fellow cheerleader. Both young ladies wanted to do something for the family, and came up with the idea of a benefit 3-on-3 tournament.

A total of 32 teams entered the tournament in the various brackets. They included both boys’ and girls’ brackets, and the brackets were also broken up into three different age groups: incoming junior high students, incoming high school students, and adults, although the adult bracket was co-ed. A total of $3,500 was raised through the fees and donations and sales of water at the tournament.

The “Brick Squad,” which included for Dalhart Wolves Will Moore, Zach Barsalou and Xaviar Hammett, won the adult bracket. The “Her-ri-canes” won the junior high girls’ bracket, and “SBD” won the junior high boys’ bracket. The high school boys’ bracket was won by “State Champs,” which was a group of Texline basketball players who are, in fact, state champions. The high school girls’ bracket was won by a group of Dalhart Lady Wolves called “Chicken Noodle Hoops.”

The other fundraisers for Bustillos include the selling of “Jasmine’s Fight” t-shirts at the high school for $25 each and a couple of raffle drawings, one for a softball bat and one for a package that includes an iPad Pro, iPhone 12, Apple watch, air pods, and an Apple pencil. Tickets for the softball bat are $1 each. The tickets for the Apple package are $100 each, with only 300 tickets being sold. Anyone wanting more information about the raffle drawings can check out the “Jasmine’s Fight” Facebook page.
