One dead following self-inflicted gun shot

by Nixie Sanderson

One person has died from a reported self-inflicted gun shot wound Friday morning in Hartley County. Hartley County Sheriff Chanze Fowler said a “be on the lookout” alert was received at approximately 8:30 Friday morning for a silver Chevrolet Silverado truck with a loaded motorcycle on the back drive George Cameron. Fowler said Cameron was wanted on two warrants out of Fort Worth and was considered armed and dangerous. “George had recently been released from prison, and he was en route to Colorado to take people out who ratted on him. He had already shot someone in Fort Worth,” Fowler said. Fowler said a Department of Public Safety officer spotted Cameron and his vehicle nearHartley. Hartley County Sheriff’s

Deputy Eric Byrne then responded and followed the vehicle. Cameron reportedly stopped in the lane of traffic and then began rolling down the highway before eventually coming to a stop along Highway 87 near County Road 47. “(Cameron) slow rolled and then came to a stop in the bar ditch,” Fowler said. Fowler and Hartley County Chief Deputy Tommy Hughes arrived on scene.“Tommy and I approached the car and found the driver was injured from a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head,” Fowler said.

EMS was on scene until RICO Aviation arrived and transported Cameron to Northwest Texas Hospital. Fowler said Cameron was pronounced dead at the Amarillo hospital. Fowler said Cameron was wanted for a warrant of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
