Sales tax allocations up 2.6 percent over 2020

A total of $783.2 million in sales tax collections were distributed to counties, cities, transit systems, and special taxing districts across the state by the comptroller’s office this month. That’s up 2.6 percent from what was distributed in January 2020. 

The sales tax allocations for January are based on sales made in November by businesses that report tax monthly. Cities received $505.6 million, and transit systems received $167 million. Counties received $64.4 million, and special purpose taxing districts received $64.3 million.
