The executiveorders have drawn the criticism of conservative lawmakers, who statethe measures would violate second amendment rights. The president began his address with a recollection of the massshootings that have occurred during his presidency. He also addressedhis belief in an individual’s right to bear arms. “I believe in the Second Amendment. It’s there written on the paper.It guarantees a right to bear arms. No matter how many times peopletry to twist my words around. I taught constitutional law; I know a littleabout this. I get it. But I also believe that we can find ways to reducegun violence consistent with the Second Amendment,” he said.
