Stratton Potter and Dylan Moore named Little Mr. and Miss XIT
The 2009 Little Mr. and Miss XIT winners were named at the pageant held on Saturday, July 25th. The XIT Corral was set up in the sanctuary of the First Christian Church on Denver. The event brought out approximately 200 family and friends to cheer on the contestants.
Magic Performed for Dallam- Hartley County Libraries Summer Reading Club
On Wednesday the 22nd of July Michael Turner, son of Dr. and Mrs. Matt Turner of Dalhart, performed a variety of magic for the Dallam-Hartley County Library summer reading club.
High Country Clinic Hosts Intern
High Country Community Rural Health Clinic LLC has hosted a current Texas Tech student for the past six weeks for an in depth on the job internship that provides valuable experience to the intern in regards to the working and operations of healthcare in a rural area such as our own. Kelly Rueda, a Canyon native, will be completing her internship on Tuesday and will be graduating August 15th from Texas Tech as a Physician Assistant.

Jennifer is a newcomer to the area having grown up in Tulia. On June 14, 2008, she married Jake VanBeek of Hartley, owner of VanBeek Trucking. Jennifer studied graphic design at WT and took her photography classes online with a New York studio.

There was no shortage of enthusiasm as the Channel 10 crew rolled into town to visit Dalhart, the fourth Panhandle town on their “Summer Celebration” tour. They will long remember being treated by the area Chamber of Commerce to a delightful “chicken fried” steak dinner at The Loose Caboose!

The repeated click of a ballpoint pen, tapping of a pen, or jingling keys in a pocket can become quite distracting. Why people engage in annoying habits is a mystery, but all people have some habit that likely annoys those around them or even cuts off proper communication completely.
Wind-powered high security data center
In a July 16th press release, Jerry Patterson, Commissioner for the Texas General Land Office, announced that an agreement was reached with Baryonyx Corporation to lease approximately eight acres of land in Dallam County. The land is a part of the Permanent School Fund land and will house a highly secure computer server facility. Baryonyx is a Houston-based corporation.
Teacher raises likely to receive approval
The Dalhart Independent School Board held a regular meeting on Tuesday, July 21st. Many items were on the meeting’s agenda. Of particular interest was the discussion regarding teacher raises for the upcoming school year.
Stimulus funds US Hwy 87 improvements
Paul Braun, Public Information Officer with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) provided information recently regarding improvements to US Highway 87 southeast of Hartley to the city limits of Dalhart. The project is scheduled to get underway as soon as weather permits.
State of Texas Elk’s Drug Awareness Poster Contest
The Dalhart Elk’s Lodge is very proud to announce the following area students that placed in the State of Texas Elk’s Drug Awareness Poster Contest. We appreciate each and every student that participated.
Balee McKay, 3rd grade student from Channing, placed 3rd in the State receiving a $125.00 savings bond from the State Foundation as well as a $50.00 bond from Dalhart Elks.
Eta Upsilon Sorority sponsored meal
Friday, July 17th ETA EPSILON Sorority sponsored the Dalhart Senior Center July fundraiser meal and the center would like to express its gratitude to the sorority and all of its members for sponsoring the meal. It was a pleasure working with each of the members and the seniors enjoyed their enthusiasm and all of the effort that they put forth to help the center out with the July fundraiser meal.
2009 Valedictorian continues to receive recognition
Dalhart Independent School District Superintendent David Foote was pleased to announce on Monday that DHS 2009 Valedictorian Jasmine Bohlender was invited to Austin to meet Governor Rick Perry. The invitation was extended to Jasmine due to her outstanding scholastic success, including winning first place finish in the State’s UIL competition in accounting and being named Valedictorian.
Summer Celebration Thursday with News Channel 10
News Channel 10 out of Amarillo will be in Dalhart for their 2009 Summer Celebration on Thursday, July 23rd. Channel 10 will be broadcasting the 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. news live from the Dallam County Courthouse here in Dalhart with food, fun and prizes. Several local businesses and organizations are joining the celebration. There will be a variety of free items and some local non-profit organizations are taking this opportunity to hold a fund raiser.
The art of storytelling at XIT Museum
More than 80 children and adults poured into the XIT Museum on Thursday, July 16th to enjoy storyteller Eldrena Douma. Douma is a Pueblo Indian from the tribes of the Laguna, Tewa and Hopi. She is a professional storyteller, author and workshop presenter.
Texline celebration enjoyed large turnout
The first anniversary celebration of the opening of the Community Center in Texline was held on Saturday, July 18th.. The daylong event brought people from the community and surrounding areas and an estimated 350 to 400 people enjoyed the meal and all of the planned activities.

Andrew was born and raised in the Dalhart area. He graduated from Hartley High School in 1992. While there, he met and later married his wife, Tiffany.
Riding a bike and building houses
Riding 1,808 miles on a bicycle should exhaust and even defeat a person, but the 31 college-aged students and route leaders that arrived in Dalhart on Wednesday, July 15th were anything but defeated. The group left Jacksonville, Florida on June 10th to embark on a 3,700-mile road trip. The trip is one of many that young people across the United States have selected to take a part in.
Channel 10 News Amarillo to broadcast from Dalhart
Dalhart residents are invited to watch the broadcast of Channel 10’s evening newscasts for 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23rd. The visit to Dalhart is part of a four-part newscast trip through the Texas panhandle, and the evening in Dalhart is the last night of the panhandle tour.
