     Title: GFWC/TFWC Top of Texas District represented at TFWC State Convention

The 112th session of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs, a division of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, met in Westlake, Texas at the Solana Marriott Hotel and Convention Center.

    Keynote speaker was Dr. Rose Ditto, General Federation of Women’s Clubs President, from Washington, D.C.        In attendance from Dalhart were Barbara Dawkins, Top of Texas District President of the TFWC and Mary Jo Ondracek, District Chairman of the Texas Historical People Committee. Dalhart Contemporary Study Club was represented by Barbara Dawkins and Mary Jo Ondracek, and Marion Gamertsfelder represented Las Viajeras of Dalhart. Cindy Jackson and Margaret Reed from Stratford represented Prospectus Study Club.

    Past State President of the TFWC and a former Dalhartan, Marion Gamertsfelder and Margaret Reed of Stratford made a special presentation to the first president of the Women’s History and Resource Center honoring “Women in Volunteerism”, Mrs. Lennie Sims of Wellington.  The Center opened 25 years ago and since that time has collected and preserved documents, photo’s and other memorabilia relating to women’s contributions to American and International well being through volunteer efforts.

    TFWC State Awards were presented to local clubs with outstanding programs during the

2008 year. Las Viajeras Study Club of Dalhart won three awards in the Creative Arts Department. Writing Contest - Youth Short Story, Grades 1, 2, and 3: “I’m Just A Girl”, written by Sidney Fahnert, won second place. Writing Contest - Youth Poetry, Grades 1, 2, and 3: “Books”, written by Luke Daniels, won second place. Writing Contest - Youth Poetry, Grades 4, 5, and 6: “Football”, written by Kolton Bezner, won second place. Las Viajeras also won first place in the program about Creative Arts. Prospectus Study Club placed second in the program about Historical People. The program was about the past sheriffs.
