Twinkling lights, holiday wreaths, lawn ornaments, nativity scenes galore.  All types of Christmas decorations draped Dalhart lawns, homes, rooftops and more.  The 2009 Lighting Contest winners were selected Tuesday evening, December 15th and all of the winners managed to impress the judges.

The annual lighting contest, sponsored by the Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Dalhart, brings out the best in holiday decorators.  They climb atop their houses, line their walkways and spend countless hours painstakingly laying out decorations on their lawns.  They decorate their homes so that Christmas cheer resonates through their windows.  They inspire and motivate others in the neighborhood to bear the cold and wind and adorn their own lawns and homes.  They give families a reason to take an evening drive to enjoy their dedication to the Christmas spirit.
After a drive through town, visiting each home registered for the contest, the judges came to their decision and have announced those few that went above and beyond interesting and well done, and achieved the exceptional.  Honorable mention went to Bobby and  Pasha Ritter for their dazzling yard and home at 907 Trinidad.  In 4th place were Chris and Sheila Stephens for their holiday festival at 1207 Chaparral.
Taking 3rd place were Brandon and Carla Judd for all of their hard work and talent at 1203 Rancho Circle.  And, the top two homes happened to be neighbors on Cottonwood.  In 2nd place were George
and Donna Wells for their Christmas spectacular at #7 Cottonwood.
This year’s number one home was found at #2 Cottonwood.  Taking 1st place were Jack and Christina Welch, whose sensational seasonal display wowed the judges.  Although the contest is over, the people of Dalhart have one request.  Keep the lights on, for a little while longer.  Give everyone a chance to pass by and enjoy the decorations for a few more days.
