By Robin Scott
Ronald Alvin Thompson was arrested on July 6th after an investigation into his conduct with two students from the Hartley School District. Originally, Thompson, a teacher and coach for
Hartley, was charged with one count of indecency with a child under the age of 17. Sgt. Phillip Ditto with the Texas Rangers, Company C, out of Dumas led the investigation and arrest of Thompson.
The Grand Jury heard evidence that lead to indictments on three counts of indecency with a child, second degree felonies, and two counts of improper relationship between educator and student, also second degree felonies. The allegations against Thompson stem from an incident that occurred in late April involving the 13-year-old child. The other victim is a 17-year-old girl, according to Ditto.
If convicted, Thompson could face imprisonment for two to 20 years and a fine of up to $10,000 for each conviction. Thompson had remained housed in the Moore County jail until August 27th, when he posted bond. Bond was set at $150,000.00. Thompson, age 56, was a resident of Hartley at the time of his arrest; however, he is not teaching in the district this year.
