BOYS RANCH, TX — (August 12, 2009) Cal Farley’s will host the 65th Annual Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch Rodeo on Labor Day weekend, September 5th and 6th. This year’s event is sponsored by PMG, J. Lee Milligan, Inc., and Luther King Capital Management.
The annual Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch Rodeo features the boys and girls who reside in the Cal Farley’s campus-based programs at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch and Cal Farley’s Girlstown, U.S.A. Over 135 children, ages 4-18, will compete in a number of rodeo activities including calf riding, stick horse racing, steer riding, pole bending, barrel racing, break away roping, bull riding, bull fighting and bareback bronc riding. Belt-buckles and saddles are awarded to the top rodeo competitors.
The weekend’s events kick-off each day with the Old Tascosa Rendezvous, a western living-history reenactment, from 9:00 a.m. to noon both days. The barbeque lunch, made with Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch homegrown beef, will be served beginning at noon. Rodeo action begins at 2:30 p.m.
This year, an Anniversary Celebration will begin at 2:00 p.m. each day of the Rodeo which will encircle appreciation for the individuals and communities who have made the Cal Farley’s organization the success that it has been over the years. We will celebrate Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch and Cal Farley’s Girlstown, U.S.A., for the work accomplished over the past 70 years and 60 years, respectively; and we will recognize the community-based work of the five Cal Farley’s Family Resource Centers.
The annual Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch Rodeo also serves as homecoming for alumni. A number of events are planned for the group and the Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch Alumni Association’s executive director, Bobby Sarpalius, will present this year’s Distinguished Alumni awards.
The cost of the general admission tickets include a barbecue lunch, which will be served from noon to 2:00 p.m. Box seating is available. Children under 6 are free. Local active military personnel and their families are encouraged to inquire about complimentary tickets. Tickets may be purchased at the Amarillo office located at 600 W. 11th, or by calling 372-2341 or toll-free at 800-687-3722. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Tours of the Ranch, a book signing with author Tex Carroll, a live radio remote and $100 giveaway, and countless other activities also will take place throughout the weekend. Local television news anchor, Andy Justus, will serve as the event emcee. Forrest Hebert will be the rodeo event’s announcer.
