Hartley, Texas – July 30, 2009    Executives from The Kroger Company (www.kroger.com; NYSE: KR) and Select Milk Producers, Inc. visited the Dalhart area Thursday to present Natural Prairie Dairy Farm and the dairy’s employees the prestigious Kroger’s Supplier of the Year award.
With over 75 local employees, Natural Prairie Dairy Farm is a family owned and operated organic dairy that began milking in 2005 and is focused on premium quality milk and environmental sustainability.  Essentially, all feed for the dairy is produced in Dallam and Hartley counties, which greatly lowers the dairy’s carbon footprint and supports more than 25 additional local jobs.
The Kroger Company, the nation’s second largest grocery retailer, employs more than 326,000 associates in 31 states.  Kroger focuses its charitable efforts (The Kroger Foundation) on supporting hunger relief, health and wellness initiatives, and local schools and grassroots organizations in the communities it serves.
Donald De Jong of Natural Prairie Dairy Farm said, “We are pleased to work alongside Kroger’s family of supermarkets to provide fresh, high-quality organic milk to their customers.  I am excited to have a team of employees at Natural Prairie who share this focus and passion.”
During the presentation of the award, John Hitchell from The Kroger Company praised Natural Prairie’s flexibility and willingness to grow and adapt to Kroger’s customer demands.  The award was presented by Kroger’s executives at a barbeque for Natural Prairie’s employees and their families.
