High Country Community Rural Health Clinic LLC has hosted a current Texas Tech student for the past six weeks for an in depth on the job internship that provides valuable experience to the intern in regards to the working and operations of healthcare in a rural area such as our own.  Kelly Rueda, a Canyon native, will be completing her internship on Tuesday and will be graduating August 15th from Texas Tech as a Physician Assistant.

Kelly feels her internship has been very beneficial sharing that, “Bruce [Schubert] has been a great preceptor, and I have gained immense on the job experience during my stay.”  Upon graduation, Kelly hopes to work in the Amarillo area in Family Medicine.

Kelly started college in pharmaceutical school, but quickly realized that it was not for her as she had no interaction with people, which is her passion.  Kelly has no regrets regarding her chosen career path stating, “It has been a long road, but one that has been well worth it.”  Kelly’s internship in a small town also proved enjoyable, stating that she loves “not having to drive clear across town to get groceries.”  Kelly enjoyed her stay, and especially enjoyed the hot dog cookout that the Clinic hosts annually.
