Twilight Fund organizers hosted a very successful fundraising community event Saturday that included a 5K run, mile walk, dinner and dancing during their second annual Twilight 5K Run and Rock. One hundred and forty racers signed up to make the five-kilometer trek around Rita Blanca Park to raise necessary funds to help local cancer patients and their families.

“All the money raised stays in Dalhart,” Twilight board member Kelly Whitcavitch said. “This is the second annual 5K and we have probably doubled or tripled in participation.”

Whitcavitch said the money raised at any of the Twilight Fund events is used to help families with travel expenses while treating the disease.

“Even if you have insurance, it doesn’t cover travel expenses for when someone has to make the long trips for treatments,” Whitcavitch said. “Often times families have to travel to as close as Amarillo to as far away as Houston, so we raise money to help with that expense.”
