The XIT Rodeo and Reunion main event is set to kick off on Thursday night when the PRCA Rodeo kicks off at 7 p.m.
This will be the 77th annual XIT Rodeo and Reunion and the 76th year the Reunion has been held in Dalhart. The original founders of the reunion decided Dalhart as the permanent location after first holding the event at the Old Settlers Reunion in Amarillo.
There have already been some activities going on for XIT on the rodeo side with the Team Roping taking place on July 20 and the junior rodeo on Saturday. But the big rodeo is one of the biggest attractions XIT has to offer and it is expected to be even more exciting this year with several new additions to the arena as well as the events.
Jimmy Wright is the rodeo man this year for XIT and he has had a front row seat to all the improvements that have been made this year.
“The big rodeo I’m real excited about because we changed our stock contractor and we already got our numbers in for the bare backs and we have 32 bareback riders, we have 46 saddle broncs and 53 bull riders,” Wright said. “Last year, we had zero bare backs and I think 20-something of the others, so its really gotten a lot bigger this year because of that.”
Frontier Rodeo Company out of Freedom, Oklahoma is providing the stock for the 2013 XIT Rodeo and Reunion. XIT decided to use them after they clearly fit the rodeo best. They provided the best price as well as the best stock. Now they will have to see if they will provide the best show.
